The Final Chapter: Elie's Voice

"The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me" (Wiesel 109).

1. For whom did Elie Wiesel write this book?
2. Why did he call it Night?

  1. 1.Elie Wiesel wrote this book to let the people know what his experience was going through the Holocaust as a child. He represented the Jews and wrote it to let the people know how terrible life was doing the Holocaust.
2.Elie Wiesel called this book Night because life was very dark and terrible . Night is when the people suffered the most pain. Elie saw the children being thrown to the fire and burned.Night is silent and gloomy which can somehow represent the people that were miserable during the Holocaust.

  2. 1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book for everyone to read. He wants to tell everyone about his experiences during the Holocaust and all of his memories. He changes througout the book and begins to think differently than before. He shows how he is and the way he begins to act.

    2. In my opinion, Elie Wiesel called his book NIGHT because of the events that were happening and because of the way he feels. Most of his memories are dark and most of the people fear during the night about their futures. Everyone hardly sleeps at night and are full of fear. NIGHT can represent the events of the Holocaust and can symbolize how the people felt.

  3. 1. Elie wrote this book to tell people what had occur to him and it affected him. He telling people that the Holocaust has forever changed him because it made it challenge his perspective and he want people to know that.
    2. He called it Night because what night represent. Night represent darkness, and to him his experience in the Holocaust was dark. He saw his father die in a slow, painful death, he saw children being burn and so much horrible things being done to people who haven’t anything wrong. It was a dark time for him.

  4. 1. In my opinion Elie Wiesel wrote this book for his father and for everyone to read. He wanted to tell the people what he and his father went through during the holocaust. He wants the readers to imagine every emotion that Elie and his father Chlomo went through as Jews during the holocaust. He shows how the holocaust had changed him a as human being.
    2. Elie Wiesel called his autobiography NIGHT because he wanted to tell everyone the most darkest and painful time he and his father went through. The Holocaust of course was a tragic, sad tragedy. It is just like night, dark and scary. He felt that everyday of his life was as if it was nighttime.

Ellie Wiesel wrote this book for the people. This book was to show the troubles the Jews were put through during the Holocaust. The book shows the hardships that Ellie faced in order to survive. Ellie wants the readers to see and feel everything he did.
Ellie called this book Night because there was no hope for the Jews. During the Holocaust it was dark for the Jewish people. The tittle Night foreshadows the pain that Ellie faced and every other person's pains also.

  6. 1). Elie Wiesel wrote night in order for people to be informed about his expiriences and what he lived through in the concentration camps. He wrote the story in order for people to remember all of the people that have died and suffered. I think this book was written so people realize the bad things that occured and occur today in the world. People should know about his expieriences in order for them to learn and speak out against evil crimes and abuses toward any other human being.
2). He called it Night in order to show the pain and suffering that the Jews went through. They were killed and tortured and there was a lways a fear of death. Night symbolizes evil and darkness. Night also represents the absance of god in this time from Elie's point of view. There was no hope and he lost faith in god because he was letting all of the Jews died.

  7. Elie wrote the book for the ones that he cares the most such as his father and probably Juliek. He wrote the book because he wanted people to know the suffering he and other prisoners had gone through. Elie also wrote the book as a memoir of his father and himself going through the camp depending on each other’s life.
Elie named the book Night because it is symbolic. Night is just like the cover of the book, dark and mysterious. He named it to show his memories at the camp are dark and yet mysterious. He can also name the book Night because of the nights that his father and he had gone through together.

  8. 1.)Elie Wiesel write this book to everyone. This book informs people about his experience in the Holocaust as a young man. he wanted to show how the people suffered during the holocaust and how it is to live through a horribel event like that.

2.)Elie Wiesel called the book Night because night is one of the symbols that he used in the story. He tried to create a creative title that can show the experiences he had. Since it was a dark and sorrow time period for Jews, night would be a perfect title. Also, Night times in the book was where the horrible conditions and things that occured. For example, it was night when Elie first arrives at Auschwitz and night is represented as pitch darkness.

  9. 1. Elie wrote this book for himself and for his father. I believe it was his way of saying that he was sorry that he did nothing. He was apologizing for never interfering in a fight when they beat his father, for not forcing a doctor to help him, and for ever thinking that he was a burden. I think it was also a way for Elie to describe his emotions. The novel was his way of sharing his emotions which at the beginning, he could not do.

    2. Elie Wiesel called his book Night because it is during the night where people fear everything. At night people are scared of the darkness, they become paranoid at every noise they hear, and the mind becomes filled with scary thoughts. These emotions and feelings parallel what occurred during the Holocaust. During the Holocaust Jews felt that they were in darkness. They thought that this was something they could not escape and they feared for their lives.

  10. 1. I think Elie wrote this book for everyone. He wants us to know about the experiences he had gone through during the Holocaust. He wanted us to know not just about how he had to struggle to survive and the things the Germans did to them. He wanted us to know how the struggles had changed everyone through it all. After all the struggles and torture, he realized that families can be torn apart and all people think of is the key to survival and food. He also wants people to know that after all this happened to them, when they were finally free, they didn't care for revenge but they will always remember this period of pain in their life.

    3. Elie named this book "Night" because it symbolizes fear, darkness, and death. He uses night to symbolize the Holocaust and explain how it was period of darkness, fear and death for the Jews. I think that it's used to symbolize the Holocaust because at night it's dark. People can't see where they are going. This is similar to describing the Holocaust because it was like night to the Jews everyday. They had no idea where they were heading to and what was going to happen to them everyday. They didn't know what to expect.

  11. 1. Elie wrote this book, to be the voices of everyone who didn’t had a chance to make it out of the Holocaust. He wrote to tell people how many lives was taken away, and his experience of a nightmare.

    2. Elie called this book, Night because as if the Holocaust was not just a nightmare, but something that comes back to him from time to time, like how night always come back after the day.

  12. 1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book intending to spread the terrors of the Holocaust to people all over thw world. People needed to know what was actually going on behind the gates of the concentration camps. If people all over the world know what was going on during this time, they can prevent history from repeating itself and prevent another Holocaust from happening. Elie also used this book as a way of expressing his feelings towards the Holocaust because many people wanted to do things to show what happened during this time, and Elie Wiesel chose to write a book.

    2. The book is titled Night because night time is when bad things happen. For example, today, when night falls people know they should not wander alone because there are eveil people that come out and do evil things at night. This book is called night because Elie Wiesel thinks of the Holocaust as a never ending night because there was so much evil going on.

  13. 1) Elie wrote this book for us, so we could understand his struggle, the struggle of all the Jews during the Holocaust. How they lost their faith, how they lost their family, how they were hardened by the atrocities committed during the Holocaust. He used his own personal struggle to help exemplify the struggle all the Jews went through

    2) He called the book Night because that's what the Holocaust was like, the night. It was dark, full of fear and uncertainty, all the Jews could do was sleep and wait for what happened next, tortured by their fears and nightmares.

  14. Elie Wiesel wrote this book in memory of all those that died during the Holocaust and those who suffered during that time. He wanted to inform the readers how it was life like during the Holocaust. Writing this book was a way for Elie to express himself of what he lived through.

I think the book is called Night because during the night unexpected things could happen. For Elie it was like a nightmare that he had to live through. Also during the night is when his father died. When the Holocaust was over was like the night had turned to day and he could see the light again and start a new day.

  15. 1. Elie wrote this book for everyone to read. He wanted everyone to hear his experiences during the Holocaust. For many years after the Holocaust Elie Wiesel didn’t share his experiences to the public and by writing this book he was able to express himself and what he went through to everyone. It was probably hard for Wiesel to share his feeling to everyone but by writing the book he got the opportunity to do so. He probably had a lot of guilt for what he thought about his father and by writing Night he was able to open up and express his feeling which took some of the guilt off. Elie Wiesel wrote this book for himself because it helped him grieve with the hardships he experienced in his life. By writing this book he had a voice.

    2. Elie Wiesel called the book Night because night is dark and so was the Holocaust and the experiences he faced. Night is full of fear and terror which is what Elie saw and felt during the Holocaust. He may have also called the book Night because he was a survivor of the Holocaust and during his time in the concentration camps he always lived to see night. Elie would survive though every single day of the Holocaust no matter how hard it was and he was always alive to see the night.

  16. Although Elie did right this book and people will read it, I think it was much more for himself and for his loved ones. Sure Elie wrote about his experience and many were touched and moved by it but it proves to himself many things. At the begining of the book it seems that Elie and his dad werent as close. Throughout the book their bond grew closer. Without his dad he would not be here and he doesnt want to forget that. So he owed it to himseld to write a book in memory of his father aswell as a few others.

Elie Wiesel titled this book NIGHT because of the symbolism behind it. Throughout this book we see alot of metaphors and much symbolism used. This is just another example. Night falls under darkness and pain. Night is also the end of the day. For most Jews it was " the end " too.

  17. "The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me" (Wiesel 109).

    1. For whom did Elie Wiesel write this book?

Elie wrote the book for his family and the people that didn't experience the Holocaust first-hand. In return for not being able to do so much for his father, I believe this is a way to repent and use his voice to reach people's hearts. To tell then to take action and be aware. To hope that something like this would never happen again.

    2. Why did he call it Night?

Elie called it Night because the Holocaust was a world without God and the most suffering for him. His nights were long, cold, and fearful. The God created light, therefore the world was a place of darkness. During his nights, it was a world without God. When night occurs, it is when people suffer the most. Night is told to show the atrocities and suffering of the Holocaust. Elie's world was without God and many suffered during the nights of the Holocaust, therefore it was called Night.

    1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book for everyoen to read. He wanted everyone to know about the struggles and hardship that not only him, but thousands of people had endured. He wanted people to see the true definition of survival and struggle while reading about how the prisoners faced hard challenges.

    2. Elie called this book Night because the whole book was about the tough, horrible struggles the prisoners had. Those times were dark and dreary, just as the nighttime is. The Holocaust is similar to the night; it was a time of fear.

  19. "The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me" (Wiesel 109).

    1. For whom did Elie Wiesel write this book?
Elie Wiesel wrote this book for everyone to read, his purpose wasn't to blame the Germans for all they have done to his life, but to share the hardships and struggles that life has, and what keeps a person strong. Because he had his fathers support he was able to live through it all. He wanted people to know what tragic really meant and how life can be harsh at times.
    2. Why did he call it Night?
Elie named this book Night because in this book the only thing that kept him alive was the Nights where he would be with his father, also it is the only time he gets to rest. The Night is dark and cold, and sometimes scary, these are all the feelings that Elie felt, scared of what might happen next, all his hopes are now dark, and the feeling of cold from not enough food and heat to keep him warm and healthy.

    1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book to the members of society to get a glance of the harsh conditions he faced. He represented the Jews in society being force to stay in Concentration Camps. He shows how he is and the way people in society acted to one another.
    2. In my opinion, Elie Wiesel called his book NIGHT because of the events that were turning points happened in the darkness and it symbolizes pain and suffering. The memories that Elie remembers are dark and lonely. NIGHT stimulates the idea of wanting for peace but fear can strike without mercy. NIGHT represents the events of the Holocaust and can symbolize destruction and loneliness.

  21. 1. Elie Wiesel wrote the book Night for the people in the future. Elie want to tell everyone in the world he experienced during the Holocaust and what he went through. He wrote this book to describe the horror of the Holocaust and what memories he had in his childhood. Also, he wanted to show us how lucky we are to not be apart of the Holocaust.

    2. The book was called Night because at night, it is very dark and the Holocaust was full of darkness. Also, is showed how he had suffer night and the fear he had every night. Also, his father died at night. Night represents the darkness and horror of the Holocaust.

  22. 1. I believe Elie wrote this book for his father. Of course he wrote this book to in order to retell history and inform us of the true story but he did it with his father in mind. Elie also wrote this book for himself because now was his chance to really say what he wanted to. Back then, he couldn’t because death would have been his next step. But this was his chance to let out everything he’s been holding in. His father also plays a big part in his book because if he didn’t write a book, his father’s voice would have continued to haunt him. This was his chance to reconnect with his family.
    2. Elie called his book Night because Elie Wiesel named is book night, because he wanted to tell the world and let them know that these were the darkest and most painful times of his life. He picked night as a metaphor for how he felt. After what he went threw he probably felt alone, scared, angry. So he wanted to compare that to nighttime, were its dark, scary and creepy. The Holocaust was sad, depressing, and full of gloomy and dark memories like the night sky is dark.

    1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book both for himself and for the Jews and Germans. He felt as if no Jew fought back and no Jew blamed the Germans and their allies for what went on. He wanted everyone to see how although the Jews were freed, their souls were dead. He questioned, why the Jews didn't fight back. He wanted to open their eyes and also show the Germans what they did.

    2. Like night Elie was dark, cold, and soulless after all of the happenings. This treacherous journey has killed the souls of the Jews and made them appear as dark like night.

    1) Elie Wiesel wrote this book for the people who don't realize the struggles jews faced during this cruel time. Elie wants to show how he witnessed a tragedy happen in his life and the people that he witness die. He wrote this book to show how most jews were in similar situations with their family members dieing during the holocaust.Readers are able to view a first hand account of how life was for jews during this time.

2)Elie Wiesel called this book Night because this was a dark and harsh time to witness.Night represents a dark and evil time for the jews.Elie also uses Night for his title to show the millions of lives being taken away for no reason. The millions of jewish souls that died show a dark and helpless time for them.

In my opinion, I think elie wrote this book for himself. "The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me" (Wiesel 109). Elie says “from the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me”. I think elie wrote this book for himself because he is full of regret and sorrow. He realizes that he cannot change what he has done. Elie sees himself in the depths of the mirror representing that he feels shallow. When he sees a corpse (dead body) he sees what he has become. I think elie wrote this book to make himself feel better now that he has told everyone what he had done.
Elie called the book Night to represent many things. It represents evil, and dark. Elie calls it Night to emphasize on the horrible experiences he had gone through. At night, things are dark and scary. Night gives a negative tone and I guess elie was trying to portray his pain and suffering.

  26. 1) ELie wrote this book for himself. He does not forgive himself for the times when he was complacent. There was pain in him that that survived through his dead soul. He wrote it to share tot he world what he went through and what he thought

    2) Elie probably named this book night because of its significance. Everything may be very dark for him and hard now and though the sun rose, in his life at the time there was no light, everything was dark. At night its usually time for people to rest and a time of peace, but for him it was the complete opposite

  27. 1.Elie Wiesel wrote the book for his father and himself. He had survived but was hunted by the others who took part during the holocaust. There were things he had done which he had done, that he wasn’t proud off, and they bothered him. His father’s death had impacted him a lot and he seems to be angry at himself for the little he could do. By writing this book he is trying to get a burden off of himself, but realizes that the burden will always be with him. He tries to make himself feel better by writing this book, but it doesn’t seems to have worked. He is trying to inform people but overall I believe that he writes this boo to fulfill an obligation he feels has.
2.Ellie names the book Night because the book took place during the darkest times of Elie’s life. Night time is the when there is most darkness and no light. It is a scary time and all seems to be the time when bad things happen. The holocaust was the scariest and worst time of Elie’s life and that is why he names it night. It was a time when bad things happened and there seemed to be hopeless. He names it Night because it was about a dark and scary time.

  28. Elie wrote the book to bring more awareness of the holocaust. He wanted other people to see what occurred in those dreadful concentration camps, and to prevent future genocide. He also wrote the book to release his voice, a voice that may not have been heard during the holocaust.

Elie Wiesel named the book Night to show the darkness and evil they had to endure. Night is not associated with happiness and positive interactions. Its cold lonely , that's how they he felt in Auschwitz.

  29. 1.) Elie Wiesel wrote this book for everyone, so that Wiesel can share the exparience of being a survivor in the holocaust and inform peopel of the hell the jews were put through, Elie also decicates this book his fallen parents and his little sister Tzipora.
2.) Elie Wiesel calls this book "Night" because for every night that passes in the story the jews are moved from place to place, fro mthier humble town of Sighet to a ghetto, the ghetto to Auschiwitz,Auschiwitz to Birkaneau, and so on. Night represents the migration from place to place.

  30. 1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book to his old self. That person who he once was, that person who was dead.
    2. He called the book Night because through out the book nights where the last in every place and for everyone. It was his last night in his town, in the ghetto, and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1. Elie Wiesel wrote this book for the world and for himself. He needed to express how he felt to explain his account, what he went through and what millions suffered through. He wrote this book so that everyone would know how the Holocaust was a blame that the entire world had to share, it wasnt one person's fault it was everyones. He needed to release the voice that he couldn't during the Holocaust and to forgive himself for what he did and did not do. Being able to look back at everything he had been through, Elie could share his account with the world and inform people of the evils man was capable of so that it would never happen again.
    2. Elie named his book Night to show how he and the jews felt. Every moment that they spent during the Holocaust was like night, dark, you were left without vision, people would lose themselves, who they were and what they believed in. Night symbolized the darkness inside all of the jews and Elie. It represented the events and the corrupt memories that they were left with. He named his book night because he needed to show how the fear of not surviving, of watching your loved ones killed, of losing your indentity and being daily tortured was like nightfall, dark, a soul engulfing experience, lights out, no hope and innocence lost.

    Dear Christian
Your post about the last chapter in the book was interesting. Even if I disagree with your answer it is interesting how you said it was for the people. You long with many others said the same thing and explained that it was to show others his experiences and enlighten them about the people who suffered in the era in order to be honored. I never tried looking at it that way, because in the last page of the book he looks at himself and sees a corpse. This gave me the idea that it could have been for his old self. Could you please elaborate more on what you said about “He wrote the story in order for people to remember all of the people that have died and suffered“. I did not understand this mainly because you didn’t state which people to be remembered, the people who they used to be or the people who they were in the end.

  33. 1) Elie Wiesel wrote this book to his father. I would say this because the last phrase at the end of the book sort of reminded me of his father when he was dying of thirst. The book was probably a symbol of resumption and awareness of the past decisions that probably he himself regrets.
    2) Elie probably called the book Night because Night is black, and lonely. Night is probably a metaphor towards his emptiness inside him because now he has no mom, dad or sisters. That is probably one of the many assumptions one can make when deciding why he decided to call it Night.
